Video Poker History

Video Poker began as slot machines in the late 19th century. Charles Fey invented the first in 1898 and soon became a very rich man.

Slot Machines became incredibly popular and after experiencing a lull due to Prohibition made a huge return when they were introduced to Las Vegas in the late 1940s.

As technology developed it was felt that to computerize them would be the way to go.
The first electronic machines appeared in 1964 and it was 1975 when video poker machines began to be introduced.

By the mid-1970s, they spread all over the country. The most successful of these was the Dale Electronics' Poker-Matic. And it was in 1975 when the Fortune Coin Company introduced the first video bell slot machine in Las Vegas.

Video Poker was a combination of slot machines and of poker. The machine has to payout a certain percentage of the coins inserted into it.

The machines have changed slightly with additional variations of video poker being introduced. There are different options such as jokers or wild cards, but essentially the game remains the same.
